Keyword Optimization When Writing Articles

When a user needs to search for an article or item in the Internet, he usually browses through the first thirty results listed by the search engine. If he doesn’t get any satisfactory answer from the list, he may try to use a different keyword or switch to a different search engine in order to find what he is looking for.

Since a user’s first step in using the search engine is typing in the keyword in the search field, you should consider keyword optimization as an important process in online writing. Here are some keyword optimization tips and tricks that will help you boost the number of viewers visiting your site:

* Jot down all words that are related to the topic that you would like to write about. Once you have a list of relevant words, select one or two core keywords that you think users are most likely to type in the search engine.

* Include singular and plural forms of the core keyword.

* Use long and short forms of the core keyword in the text body. Say for the keyword “celebration”, one can include “celebrant” or “celebrating”.

* It’s true that many users misspell words when typing in the search field. You might think of taking advantage of this by deliberately including misspelled words in the article. However, you should bear in mind that users might think of you being too careless if you have the words misspelled.

* Keywords are not case sensitive, thus “festivals in latin america” is the same as “festivals in Latin America”. Still, it is better if you keep in mind the correct spelling of proper nouns.

* Attaching modifiers with the core keyword will target a particular group of audience. For an instance, some people might be searching for “second-hand cars” instead of “brand new cars”.

* There’s no big fuss with hyphenated words. The word “second-hand” is the same as “secondhand” but different from the phrase “second hand”. To optimize your keyword usage, you may use both the one with the space and the one without. (by Maria Salvacion Valdellon)
