A Review of Using Wordtracker for Keyword Research

An Overview of Wordtracker
Keyword Research is considered one of the most important tasks in optimizing a website. A website’s keywords affect its placement in search engines, particularly in the major ones (Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL). Wordtracker, an online keyword generator, is one of the keyword research tools available today for webmasters, the leading one in fact.

Useful Features of Wordtracker
Wordtracker has databases that contain over 300 million searches drawn from Dogpile and Metacrawler where it compares the keyword you entered and from which you find out what words or phrases millions of people are actually entering into search engines. It also shows how many times a keyword or phrase has been entered into a particular search engine and how many websites are competing for this particular one. The result, you will be able to know which keywords are being used by many internet surfers that are being catered to by not so many competitors. This would work for your advantage.

SEO people use this tool even before building a website making it easier for them to think of the texts for their pages, after considering what keywords will be profitable for them. This also saves anyone from time-consuming and good-for-nothing guessing game. Many people in the SEO industry consider Wordtracker a must-have
tool. Mastering this tool for keyword research will help you reap good search engine rankings.

Even a plain internet surfer will be able to use this tool considering the simplicity of the process plus its step by step guide. Wordtracker also explains the report it produces and actually has an analysis at the end of the process. It also sends to any user an email of the result of the query and gives an idea on what keywords or phrases from among the selected ones are profitable and wise to be used.

Negative Features of Wordtracker
A thing that puts Wordtracker in the negative light is that it is a paid service, though many still consider it an essential investment as they usually get high search engine rankings. Those who are just starting and don’t have that enough to finance their SEO activities, won’t be able to use this tool. Yes, Wordtracker provides a free service but the report it gives is also limited. It allows a limited number of keywords to be added to your basket. Also, keyword competition analysis is only done in Altavista, not in any of the major search engines which should have given more substantial results. Another thing seen as a defect of Wordtracker is that it only uses two meta-search engines (Metacrawler and Dogpile) which are not enough to represent the larger user community.

Wordtracker Compared with its Competition
One site that strives to compete with Wordtracker is Keyword Discovery. It works much like the former. It is a more expensive though. Keyword Discovery has databases with larger searches (20 billion vs. 300 million+). It also gives data that goes back for 12 months while that of Wordtracker is only 2 months. This data is useful in searching for seasonal keywords as this shows the real trend of keywords.

One that is always mentioned as its main competitor is the Overture. But Overture, for me, works in a different way. It also has keyword selector tool, although it’s for free, it only gives keyword suggestions and the number of searches for each. Many sites offer keyword suggestion tools for free but nevertheless only suggest words and phrases and don’t work like Wordtracker. One thing to note is that there are websites with keyword suggestion tool that use Wordtracker data. Here is a list of some of websites that offer keyword suggestion tool:

In Conclusion
Considering the things that Wordtracker can do for anyone who is wishing to optimize his site, I prefer using this tool. But it is not always necessary to use a single tool. One situation I would consider using other tools is when I am searching for seasonal keywords. Yes, Wordtracker is the leading keyword research tool. Many has benefited from it. For those who haven’t tried using it, maybe it won’t hurt you to try it out. Try to visit Wordtracker.
